Jermaine Dupri, founder of the popular record label So So Def, is an Atlanta native. He is also a rapper and Grammy winning producer who was a big influence in remaking Atlanta as a hip hop mecca. Dupri, who is also known as JD, was a mentor to rapper Bow Wow. He is also dating Janet Jackson. He also owns Studio 72, a nightclub on Lawrenceville Highway. He also published an autobiography, "Young, Rich and Dangerous: The Making of a Music Mogul." In addition to his famous girlfriend, Dupri has worked with notable artists such as Mariah Carey and Usher. Dupri's hits include "Welcome to Atlanta, " a seranade to the city. "So So Def" appeared on the bright yellow billboard that towers above I-75/85 north.
