Songwriters have mixed results when taking stage
NOT SO MUCH: Dr. Dre. The classic hip-hop album "The Chronic" was released with Dre's name on the spine, but it's his keyboard wizardry and the other rappers (primarily Snoop Dogg, who made his bow here) that made this an all-time favorite. Not his stilted delivery. Ken Hively / Los Angeles Times
