Songwriters have mixed results when taking stage
MADE THE TRANSITION WELL: Ne-Yo. After starting his recording career as Shaffer Smith (his real name), and being summarily shelved, this Atlantan tried his hand again as a songwriter. He penned Mario's "Let Me Love You," returned as multimillion-seller Ne-Yo, and is still an in-demand songwriter who recently worked with Beyonce ("Irreplaceable") and Janet Jackson("Rock With U," "Can't B Good").
