Jay Leno and other "Tonight Show" hosts

Jay Leno took over "The Tonight Show" in 1992 after some controversy. David Letterman of NBCs "Late Night" wanted the job and ended up leaving the network in a huff for CBS, thus creating a late-night rivalry that has continued to this day. The competition has been fiercest in the booking of guests, with Leno eventually getting the upper hand, as seen here. Gerald Herbert/AP
