Michael Jackson through the years
In May 1984, President Ronald Reagan and first lady Nancy Reagan recognized Jackson's contribution to the drunk driving awareness program. Thoughout his life, Jackson was involved in causes that benefitted children and the poor, most notably "We Are the World." He co-wrote the single with Lionel Richie and was one of 39 musicians who performed on it. Nearly 20 million copies were sold and millions of dollars were donated to famine relief. File photo
