AJC Staff Photos of the Year, 2011-- John Spink
My father and mother are both buried in a military cemetery. A multitude of the Cherokee County community came out for the funeral of Army Spc. Gary Lee Nelson III at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church in Woodstock. Nelson died April 5, 2011 while serving in Iraq. The Nelson family walks behind the casket as it was brought out of the Mass by an Honor Guard from the Army National Guard who then placed the flag on the casket. I felt the moment brought to our readers a sense of being there. John Spink jspink@ajc.com
