Collins -- Jesus Garcia Reyes harvests Vidalia onions at Sikes Farms in Collins Monday, May 2. He came to the farm from Oaxaca, Mexico, through the federal guest worker program. It was humbling to watch these people harvest onions so in hot, uncomfortable conditions, and it was emphasized by the fact that I was pregnant when I was shooting. These men and women were some of the hardest workers I have ever seen. I could smell the scent of Vidalia onions for days after shooting this assignment. Bita Honarvar bhonarvar@ajc.com
